The Book Tower Detroit Wedding Planning FAQs
What is the history of the Book Tower in Detroit?
Book Tower has been part of Detroit’s rich history since 1926. The 475-foot-tall, 38-story skyscraper was imagineered by brothers J. Burgess Jr., Herbert, and Frank Book, both Detroit-born, and both entrepreneurs and real estate developers who saw the need and demand for additional office spaces in downtown Detroit. In fact, they set out to develop a plan for all of Washington Boulevard, with architect Louis Kamper designing each of their new buildings.
The building’s construction began in 1923 and was finalized in 1926, making it the tallest building in Detroit at that time. The building was designed in the Italian Renaissance style, crafted of limestone with copper roofing. The exterior features the Academic Classicism style through its columns, scrolls, and detailing, all of which cover the entire building. Book Tower was later renovated and restored in 2015, maintaining much of its original charm, adding a modern air of romance to weddings booked at this historic Detroit venue.

How can we get to the Book Tower Detroit from downtown?
That all depends on where you’re coming from! Book Towers convenient location allows you to walk, ride share, or take the QLINE or Detroit People Mover to the venue. The venue offers street parking, which can be super hard to come by. We recommend letting your guests know ahead of time that they should plan to park at the Trolley Plaza Garage and, from there, walk to the venue (1 minute).

Each of these hotels is super close to the venue, and as an added bonus, offers an amazing backdrop for those pre-wedding getting-ready photos.
