The Eastern Detroit Wedding

Erin and Kyle’s wedding at The Eastern in Detroit was the coming together of two souls who met all the way back in high school. Was it love at first sight? Well, not exactly. But it would turn into a love that would last them a lifetime. And we think that beats all the love-at-first-sight romance by a long shot!

That very first fateful meeting that would set the course for the rest of their lives? It was their school’s annual boys vs girls soccer game. In fact, from Erin and Kyle’s own words (dripping with humor and sarcasm), it’s no surprise that between Erin’s eyebrows and Kyle’s voice, they didn’t fall in love sooner. But don’t worry, we’re here to give you the low down.

That “fateful” soccer game didn’t exactly turn out to be the first step in their journey together. No worries, Erin and Kyle both attended the University of Michigan where they would eventually reconnect. It was at the University Library where Erin would invite herself to Kyle’s birthday party. A party that just so happened to be coming up that weekend. Kyle played it off like he meant to invite her all along. Between both of their super smooth moves, they finally hit it off!

Needless to say, they fell in love, big time! They spent their time together traveling and adventuring (hiking & kayaking anyone?) and enjoying those slow moments in between by sipping coffee and making each other laugh. So no, it wasn’t love at first sight But it is the kind of love that will sustain them for a lifetime. They have big “we’re each other’s best friend” energy, so we were stoked to capture every moment of their wedding at The Eastern in Detroit.

Do you know what’s pretty amazing about working with a couple like Erin and Kyle on their wedding day? We mean aside from getting to witness them come together in marriage. It’s watching the energy and personalities around them. Seeing them with friends and family that have the same sense of humor, and how that played out for their wedding day. For example, Erin’s bridesmaids running after the trolly with her veil in hand, laughing the whole way, EPIC! Kyle’s groomsmen making feckless attempts at securing their ties, equally amazing! But the way their guests erupted when Erin and Kyle exited the church to an unapologetic confetti toss? Best moment ever!

Once Erin and Kyle were pronounced husband and wife (see unapologetic confetti toss above) we had an absolute blast working with them on their wedding portraits. Their ceremony and reception were located within minutes of each other allowing us time to take to the streets for a super crazy fun wedding photography experience. The energy of the day was still high when it was time to make our way to their wedding reception at The Eastern in Detroit. Erin and Kyle were allowed access to their reception space before their guests for a room reveal. They got to see the space all set up for their celebration, lined with empty chairs ready for their guests to occupy. The look on their faces was priceless! You’ll get to see the exact moment below.

The energy continued when it was time for the “official” entrances. As the wedding party was introduced, they made their way in to screams and cheers to each of the choreographed routines they had worked up. But, when it was time for the MVPs to be announced, Erin and Kyle’s guests were ready to blow the roof off The Eastern. Hilarious toasts and speeches were made in honor of the bride and groom, and you bet, we captured each and every one of those candid moments filled with laughter, applause, and hand gestures!
