This State Savings Bank wedding in Detroit – kind of a big deal. We’ll put it to you this way: the car featured below with our amazing couple now belongs to the actor Pete Davidson. Yes, really! Sam and Matt were joined in marriage at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and the epic celebration that followed at State Savings Bank Detroit is one for the books. We’re spilling all the details and sharing all the photos (including wedding day portraits with the car!) in the blog below.
How They Met
Sam and Matt’s very first date was all wrapped up in some classic Americana. It was a good old-fashioned ball game (opening day, in fact) for the Detroit Tigers. The game gave them plenty of time to chat it up and get to know each other. The sparks were flying in early 2019, and Sam and Matt’s love story began to unfold. Unfortunately, judging by the timeline, we’re sure you know what came next. The entire country was thrust into lockdown in 2020, and it seemed as if, for a brief moment, the entire world stood still. However, Sam and Matt remained steadfastly by one another’s side, with one pleasant side effect of the times. Matt got to move back home for work, ultimately bringing Sam and Matt closer together.
A year later, when restrictions began to ease, Sam and Matt started travelling. One of their all-time favorite spots? All of the amazing red rock formations in Arizona, where they could enjoy outdoor activities together, including going for scenic hikes. Two years later, and a second trip to Arizona, on the same fateful hike, Matt popped the question. With a yes that echoed through the red rocks, Sam joyfully accepted.

State Savings Bank Wedding
We’ll be the first to admit, Sam and Matt have some exceptional taste when it comes to wedding venues. Because their venue? Dripping with ‘rizz. Sam and Matt selected the State Savings Bank for their wedding reception, and this place will absolutely blow your mind. Yes, it’s an old bank, and yes, the original vault is part of the reception space.
The State Savings Bank in Detroit dates back to 1900. It is a designated Michigan State Historic Site and is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you’re super into architecture, we’ll also tell you that this Detroit wedding venue is done in the neoclassical Beaux Arts-style. The interior of the venue is over 14,000 square feet (it’s huge, for real!) and has a marble interior, hardwood flooring, and Roman arched colonnades. This massive space can accommodate up to 500 seated guests for an unforgettable wedding in Detroit.

When it came to putting together the vision for their State Savings Bank wedding, Sam and Matt, together with their planner, infused Mediterranean elements with classic wedding day style. Black tie was optional for Sam and Matt’s State Savings Bank wedding, but fun wrapped up in fabulous was not. The space was totally transformed with cornflower blue drapery and larger-than-life floral arrangements. This immersive approach to wedding design allowed their guests a night of dinner, dancing, and celebration that they will never forget.
Your Detroit Wedding
At the center of it all, the amazing flowers, the gilded venue, and the unparalleled planning, was Sam and Matt’s love story. Capturing their wedding day gave us ringside access to the love they share. Let’s just say, it’s the stuff of legends. The way they look into each other’s eyes, take one another by the hand, and how they embrace was layered in tender romance. We were there for every laugh, smile, burst of happy tears, and waltz around the dance floor. All of which you can see when you scroll through the photos below.
