Kara and Kyle’s Jam Handy wedding in Detroit, Michigan, perfectly reflected their personalities and their love for the city. From a quiet first look inside the Belle Isle Conservatory to portraits at the Detroit Public Library and an unforgettable celebration at Jam Handy, every part of the day felt thoughtful, relaxed, and uniquely them.
After photographing weddings throughout Detroit, Jam Handy remains one of our favorite industrial wedding venues. Its historic architecture, beautiful natural light, and flexible event space allow every couple to create a celebration that feels completely their own while providing incredible opportunities for photographs throughout the day.
The day began with both of them getting ready at separate Airbnb locations before meeting for a first look inside the Belle Isle Conservatory. Surrounded by lush greenery and natural light, it was the perfect place for them to share a quiet moment together before the celebration began.
Afterward, we explored Belle Isle with their wedding party before making our way to the Detroit Public Library. The library’s historic architecture provided a beautiful contrast to the gardens of Belle Isle and created some of our favorite portraits from the day.
Back at Jam Handy, family and friends gathered for the ceremony and reception. Brightmoor Flower Farm transformed the space with beautiful floral arrangements, and every detail felt thoughtfully personal. One of the highlights of the evening was Kara and Kyle’s first dance, set to a song by MGMT that couldn’t have fit them more perfectly.
One of the things we love most about a Jam Handy wedding is its location. Couples can easily incorporate some of Detroit’s most iconic portrait locations—including Belle Isle, the Detroit Public Library, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and downtown Detroit—before returning to the venue for an unforgettable celebration.
From the emotional first look to the packed dance floor later that evening, the entire day felt joyful, relaxed, and unmistakably them. We were honored to document every part of it and create photographs that will help them relive these memories for years to come.
