Wanting to host a wedding that felt uniquely them, Joanna and Tyler enlisted a little help for the setting. The amazing backyard featured below? Courtesy of Joanna’s parents. The enchanted forest setting, towering trees, and sprawling landscape that goes on forever, is all nestled behind their home. Providing an unforgettable backdrop for a wedding unlike one we’ve ever seen!

To transform this backyard in Michigan into a wedding wonderland, Joanna and Tyler enlisted the help of some of the most talented wedding pros in the game. The theme? Garden. The setup? Unforgettable. The entire team transformed a beautiful sprawl of land into an outdoor wedding venue setting, with a cozy and intimate feeling at the forefront. Think: creamy florals, rows and rows of guest tables set with earth-toned glassware, a checkerboard dance floor, and friends and family wiping away happy tears and clinking glasses, all night long.

That’s the amazing thing about hosting a backyard wedding, isn’t it? The vibe is totally different. Everyone is in a comfortable environment, and the pomp and circumstance are out the window. You don’t have to fuss with formalities, and you are free to enjoy a wedding day completely unbound by societal rules. Exactly like Joanna and Tyler did. And their guests? Present and enjoying every single moment from beginning to end. Actually, the start of the day kicked off with Joanna sharing a first look with her Dad inside the house, before meeting Tyler outside for their first look. When it was time for the bride and groom to lock eyes for the first time that morning, Mom just might have been looking on from the window above.

Want to hear some more amazing details? As a bride, Joanna believes that you can spend the day in Manolo’s. But, she also believes that when it’s time to hit the dance floor, shoes are optional, and when those late-night hours hit, you need a good pair of Converse to keep the party going. Yep – Joanna totally ditched her shoes for her first dance with Tyler, which by the way, one of the most adorable first dances ever! She also kept things casual when she and Dad danced to their special ballad. But when it was time to tear things up, Tyler’s jacket met its demise, and Joanna surprised guests by slipping into a pretty awesome reception dress with matching platform-style Converse.
