Katrina and Sean’s Sweetest Heart of Mary Detroit Wedding was a chic and elegant day, with an amazing party to finish off the night! We have to admit, we loved how Katrina and Sean kicked off their reception with a private room reveal. Followed, of course, by a champagne tower for them and their wedding party! Personal and private moments such as these have been having a moment in weddings over the last two years. It’s safe to say, that what might have been considered a trend is now a wedding day staple for creating an amazing experience!
It’s no secret that we’ve photographed some amazing weddings at the Colony Club in Detroit. As a wedding venue, it is a top choice for couples planning a wedding in the area. With its gilded walls, opulent chandeliers, and winding staircase the opportunities for unforgettable wedding day photos are limitless! There’s no doubt that it’s an exquisite backdrop, however, it’s made all the more enticing by the building’s history.
Katrina and Sean had a deeply moving wedding ceremony at a Gothic revival cathedral-style church, Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit. The dress code for the day was black tie. Guests were dressed in their best and the wedding party was decked out in chic black attire from head to toe. We “caught” the groomsmen letting their black bow ties loose later in the night, at the reception. Basically letting us know it was time to party. Here’s the part when we typically gush about the bride. However, Katrina was so stunning that we know our words wouldn’t do her any justice. So, you’ll just have to see for yourself when you scroll through their wedding photos below!

Once they were pronounced husband and wife, there was the matter of signing the marriage certificate before we took to the streets (literally) for some fun shots. In an epic moment that we couldn’t have planned any better ourselves, Katrina and Sean’s guests rolled by in the graffiti-covered ‘Ghostbread’ bus, cheering them on while we captured their photos. Because how often do you get to stand in the streets of Detroit while everyone you know and love hoots and hollers for you?!
Were the clouds playing peek-a-boo with us on their wedding day? You bet! Did we knock it out of the park for them anyway? Also yes! The elegant and chic details of their wedding day lent a crisp feel to their photos. But, once we were inside the Colony Club in Detroit, the light all but danced off the glittering walls, making Katrina and Sean’s wedding photos flawless! So flawless in fact, that they were featured in the digital edition of Nearly Wed Magazine!
