If you’re thinking about a destination wedding in the US of A, somewhere with lots of gorgeous golden sunlight, sparkling beaches, and enough tourist spots and attractions to keep you busy for weeks, then you definitely can’t go wrong with Florida. The Sunshine State has all this and way more besides. Or, ya know, maybe you just want to get married at a theme park?
We’re a couple o’ snowbirds who love to head south for the winter, and Florida is our winter residence of choice! Ok, so Shaun has family here, which is as good a reason as any. But we also love those Floridian winters when it comes to wedding photography.
So, we pack up all our kit, our cat and two dogs, and move our business to Florida in the winter months. That totally includes all the husband and wife photography team action too! As with all our couples, you’ll get two main photographers whatever package you choose, not to mention our decade’s worth of experience. We’ve been doing the hop to Florida for several years now, so we’ve scoped out some epic places to get you the kind of awesome shots you’ve come to expect from us.
For lovers of all things Salvador Dalí, The Dalí Museum is the perfect choice to celebrate your wedding day. As you’d expect with anything named after this eclectic artist, the building is a dramatic backdrop with some serious wow factor. There are so many perfect spaces here that’ll create a ton of awesome photo opportunities.
If you want a space that’s more than a little dramatic, check out Rialto Theatre just couple of blocks from the Hillsborough River. With its 27 foot high ceilings and historical details, all you need is a red carpet and some spotlights to make you feel like stars! We just know there will be some amazing urban scenery to go and get some unique couple shots too.
Armature Works is a building with so much life and history, you can’t help but fall in love with it a little. Based in Tampa Heights, it’s a fully renovated space that used to be the repair shop and storage for streetcars back in the early 1900s. Now it houses a public market, event spaces, restaurants, bars, and a ton of other businesses, and it’s the perfect wedding venue if you love a rustic industrial vibe.
Does the idea of a bit of Florida glamor get you shimmying with excitement? Then this might just be the place for you! This place oozes historic elegance and luxury. We especially love the Tea Garden with its super cute pink backdrop and oh so many palms. And being a hotel, you can even get ready here and keep everything in one location for ease. Perfect, right?
Here’s another historical venue with a whole lot of character to share. Station House, so named for its former use as both a train station and a fire station in the early 1900s, is what you might call a pretty eclectic mix these days! A busy co-op by day, it transforms into the perfect wedding venue by night. It even has a rooftop space where you can get wed overlooking St. Petersburg!
Right on the waterfront, the Tampa Museum of Art is actually one of only a few waterfront venues you can book for your wedding. A flexible space with all kinds of options, you can do anything from getting married overlooking the water right through to exchanging your vows in front of one of your favorite pieces of art.
If what springs to mind when you think of a Florida destination wedding is “tropical”, then we definitely recommend you check out this amazing venue! The Sunken Gardens is an outdoor paradise that’ll have you thinking you’re in the middle of the jungle. Just watch out for the wildlife!
We may not live in Florida year-round, but we’ve explored it with the excitement and passion of newly-arrived visitors each and every time we come here. We always find something different that catches our eye! It’s this fresh-eyed perspective that we offer you, whether you’re a local who knows the place like the back of your hand or you’re visiting for the first time. And we bring our Detroit grit to the sunniest state and capture it in the only way we know how.
If you choose us to capture your Florida wedding, you’ll get two main photographers and everything that represents. Two perspectives, photographs that tell both sides of the story and twice the amount of experience, knowledge and expertise when it comes to planning and putting together your wedding day.
Want the double whammy?
When we picture beach clubs, we think of views over the endless ocean, the gentle sounds of a breeze passing through the nearby palm trees and waves lapping the shore, and cocktails… all the delicious cocktails. You won’t find a classier beach club than the Ritz Beach Club, we guarantee it.
For elegance and class, you cannot go wrong with the Sarasota Yacht Club. With gorgeous views and the chance to marry on the dock, it’s a perfect location for any couple who love to sail or spend time by the sea.
Sarasota Modern Hotel, Sarasota
The Sarasota Modern Hotel just oozes glamor and elegance with its minimalist and contemporary styling. It’s super understated but oh so high-end, and their suites look incredibly cool. We can picture ourselves swaggering through the foyer here, sunglasses on and with attitude set to max. And did we even mention the pool deck?
Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota
Another place with so much history, the Ringling Museum of Art is so named for its founder, John Ringling, circus impresario of “The Greatest Show on Earth”. Yeah, think The Greatest Showman era and you’re there! The museum is architecturally stunning and there are so many incredible spots to choose where you celebrate your day.
While we mostly shoot Tampa Bay weddings in the winter months, we don’t mind heading a little further afield when we’re asked! Orlando is just a couple of hours away and it’s worth the journey for the beautiful venues (and our amazing couples, of course!). Here are a handful of venues that we love.
This historic home is super quirky and cool, and has a Spanish farmhouse feel.
This lakeside retreat really is paradise – it’ll totally wow your guests.
Think timeless elegance and stunning Spanish verandas.
This cute property is just bursting with rustic and gorgeously wild touches.
This beautiful blue manor house is a vintage dream.
