1. Shepherd’s Hollow

The unique outdoor venue is also a golf club, but the best part of Shepherd’s Hollow is its secluded location. Shepherd’s Hollow is a glass, greenhouse-style wedding venue in Michigan, and you’ll find it located just 30 miles north of Detroit.

In total, this greenhouse wedding venue is set against 350 acres of forested woodlands, with towering pine trees wrapping the venue in an atmosphere of warm tranquility. The views from inside the greenhouse during a wedding reception are nothing short of incredible, but it’s one of those outdoor wedding venues in Michigan where the surrounding natural landscape sets the tone for your celebration through a fully immersive environment.

Directly outside the doors of the greenhouse at Shepherd’s Hollow, wedding ceremonies are held outdoors, all year long. Wedding vows are exchanged in the circular outdoor terrace, which is framed by boxwood shrubs and softly lit lanterns, featuring unobstructed views of the interior of the greenhouse. The space is enveloped by the taller-than-life surrounding pines, and for weddings taking place during winter, rows of twinkle lights illuminate the space overhead. Aside from the gorgeous outdoor setting this venue offers, Shepherd’s Hollow is also one of a few select wedding venues in Michigan to offer a three-hour brunch style wedding.

Shepherd’s Hollow Wedding Planning Details

Shepherd’s Hollow is an all-inclusive wedding venue. Outdoor, year-round wedding ceremonies are only offered with a booked reception, and your culinary experience will be rolled into your venue package and pricing. Access to the grounds for your wedding photos is also part of your exclusive use venue contract.

2. Meadow Brook Hall

Michigan is filled with historic outdoor wedding venues, including Meadow Brook Hall. Originally constructed in 1926, Meadow Brook Hall is a Tudor Revival-style mansion that once served as a country estate for the Dodge family.

Carefully maintained over the years, the estate home and property have been transformed into a wedding venue. Meadow Brook Hall has preserved the architectural details and decor of its time, including its lavish facade and European-style gardens.

There are two gardens on site for hosting an outdoor wedding ceremony: the Rock Garden and English Walled Gardens. Each setting offers wedding ceremonies overlooking lush greenery, with the English Walled Gardens featuring a stone stairway with a brick backdrop, and the Rock Garden featuring a lined pathway with a backdrop of the property’s stone statue fountain.

These gardens are both secluded yet breathtaking, with two contrasting experiences set on the same property. In addition to outdoor wedding ceremonies, Meadow Brook Hall gives couples the option to plan a tented wedding reception on the grounds. The clear-sided tent on the venue’s property allows for views of the garden trellis and pathways throughout your celebration.

Meadow Brook Hall Wedding Planning Details

Meadow Brook Hall is an exclusive-use wedding venue with ceremonies, receptions, and catering as part of your venue contract. Pricing is set by season, with May through November considered prime season and December through April considered off-season.

3. Grosse Pointe War Memorial

An outdoor waterfront venue for weddings in Michigan, the Grosse Pointe War Memorial pays homage to our area’s local military history and features a vast lawn and the historic Alger’s House on its grounds. The wedding venue is stretched along the waters of Lake St. Clair, creating a panoramic backdrop depicting lakeside gardens against the sparkling open waters.

The Grosse Pointe War Memorial has the flexibility to host weddings indoors or outdoors. Indoors, wedding receptions can take place at the Historic Alger House ballroom, depicting floor-to-ceiling windows for idyllic scenery throughout every dance of your celebration.

Conversely, the outdoor waterfront terrace at Grosse Pointe War Memorial is vast and offers you the ability to host your ceremony, cocktail hour, tented wedding celebration, or all of the above. This space has scenic views portraying the facade of the Alger House, with Lake St. Clair off in the distance. If you decide to host an indoor/outdoor wedding day at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, a photo experience on the grounds is a must before heading indoors for the evening.

Wedding Planning Details

Wedding packages at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial are constructed as an all-inclusive experience that covers your ceremony, reception, food and beverage experience, and exclusive use of the venue.

4. Shinola Hotel

Searching for truly unique outdoor wedding venues in Michigan? Shinola is a hotel located in the heart of Detroit, offering a wedding day experience that cannot be replicated. The appeal of planning a wedding at Shinola lies in its rooftop ceremonies and all-but-famous Birdy Room. The space is a greenhouse-style setting with panoramic views of the city, giving the venue a feeling of the outdoors, with access to the rooftop and a fully climate-controlled environment indoors.

The Birdy Room at Shinola is about 1700 square feet in size and has the ability to accommodate up to 70 seated guests or 150 guests for a floating cocktail reception. The intimate-sized wedding venue features a vaulted ceiling, a glasshouse design with floor-to-ceiling windows, hanging greenery, and a wrap-around terrace that can be accessed for wedding photos or as a breakout space.

Shinola Hotel Wedding Planning Details

There are a few other venue spaces within Shinola for hosting your wedding, but the Birdy Room is the best space if you’re planning a rooftop wedding ceremony and want to enjoy an indoor wedding reception with the feel of the outdoors, anytime of the year. We’ve photographed so many amazing couples who choose Shinola for their wedding, and we have to admit, the venue books out in advance, so inquire with them sooner rather than later.

5. Lovett Hall

Part of The Henry Ford Museum, Lovett Hall is a stunning ballroom (built by Henry Ford himself in the 1930s) and outdoor garden wedding venue in Michigan. This sophisticated setting can be used to plan a wedding completely indoors, or to plan an indoor/outdoor experience. In addition to the interior ballroom, Lovett Hall also features a marble library for couples choosing an indoor ceremony experience, and a vintage indoor library, which is an amazing setting to enhance your wedding photography experience.

Outside, Lovett Hall has a characteristic garden courtyard, surrounded by a brick wall and overgrown trees that cast shadows across the ceremony space. The space is intimate and cozy, but large enough to accommodate a guest list of up to 150 attendees. The outdoor garden space can be easily transformed through the use of florals and decor, allowing your wedding day style to flourish, whether you are black-tie, sophisticated, whimsical, or boho.

Lovett Hall Wedding Planning Details

Lovett Hall is an exclusive-use wedding ceremony and reception venue, with a total event time of six hours. Food and beverage service is provided on-site, and your ceremony package includes an additional hour of event time for your ceremony and accessing the grounds for your wedding photos.

6. Robin Hills Farm

A picturesque event center, farm, restaurant, and wedding venue, Robin Hills Farm is among the outdoor wedding venues in Michigan that provide a fully outdoor experience through their many available spaces on site. You’ll find a tented wedding location at Robin Hills Farm near their Pasture Barn, with additional venue spaces available inside their greenhouse and at the Nest (an outdoor patio space).

Wedding ceremonies in the greenhouse at Robin Hills Farm take place year-round. If you have a winter wedding date in mind, you’ll still be able to enjoy the picturesque setting in a climate-controlled environment.

If you do decide to plan your wedding at Robin Hills Farm, you should know that the setting is massive. A little preparation will help guests navigate the grounds on the day of your wedding; we highly recommend adding a map of the farm to your wedding stationery suite so guests have an idea of the landscape ahead of time. Robin Hills Farm is great about signage on arrival day, but a little pre-wedding day preparation can make all the difference for you and your guests’ enjoyment.

Robin Hills Farm Wedding Planning Details

The venue offers ceremonies, receptions, and getting-ready suites on site, along with your bar package, which will be stocked exclusively by the venue. However, for catering, you’ll have to work with one of the venue’s exclusive partners. 8. Brengman Family Wines

Formerly known as Brengman Brothers, Brengman Family Wines offers private events, including weddings, at their winery. Located 5 miles outside of Downtown Traverse City, the winery is kind of the best of both worlds. Your out-of-town guests can easily access the venue, but it also feels like it’s a world away with its sprawling vineyards, rolling hills, and expansive gardens in the backdrop. Which also makes it a scenic venue for an outdoor wedding photography experience.

Wedding ceremonies at Brengman Family Wines are offered on the lawn of the vineyard, with your cocktail hour and reception immediately following in a tented experience. Libations are courtesy of the house label, so if wine is your thing, you’ll be able to create menu pairings for each course of the culinary experience on the night of your wedding.
